Special Bharatanatyam Performance and Workshop by Apeksha Niranjan

 

On 21 November 2023, the Thailand Foundation and the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute welcomed Apeksha Niranjan, an expert Bharatanatyam artist from Maharashtra, India. On this occasion gave a special performance/lecture and workshop on Bharatanatyam to performing arts students from the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute’s Faculty of Music and Drama. Bharatanatyam is a style of Indian classical dance that originated from the Tamil Nadu region. The dance is deeply intertwined with Hinduism and can be traced back to ancient sources such as the Natya-shastra.

Apeksha Niranjan the disciple of Sangeet Guru Dr. Sucheta Chapekar and Dr. Alka Lajmi and has completed her Master’s degrees from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharv Mahavidyalay Mandal and advanced diploma in Bharatnatyam from the Nalanda Dance Research Center in Mumbai. She has conducted many cross cultural works involving Bharatanatyam.

Students from the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute’s Faculty of Music and Drama not only study Thai performing arts, but also learn performance forms from other countries. Through this session, the students had an opportunity to learn from Apekshaji different Bharatanatyam movements as well as techniques in conveying emotions and messages through choreography.

One of the Thailand Foundation’s main areas of works is to promote cultural exchange and understanding. We believe that events such as this one help to foster deeper appreciation, insight, and connection between different cultures.
